How to Unroot/Unbrick EeePad Transformer!

For those of you who might have trouble with your EeePad Transformer (perhaps you’ve bricked it while installing new ROMs), here’s how to unroot/unbrick your EeePad Transformer.

Step 1. Download the two files below and copy over to your EeePad Transformer’s microSD card. You will need an external microSD card and if you can’t access your Android OS, you can get a microSD card adapter to copy the files over OR if you have installed the ClockworkMod Recovery 3.1.0.1, you can mount your microSD card in recovery. But I will use a microSD card in this example for the worst case scenario.

For US versions download this:
transformer_8.2.3.13_US_update.zip

For worldwide versions, download this:
transformer-8.2.3.13_WW_update.zip

and also download this for stock recovery:
8239USrecovery.zip

Step 2. Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery by holding down Volume down and Power button together until you see text at the top, then immediately let go of both buttons then hit the Volume up button.  You should now be in ClockworkMod Recovery.

Step 3. Choose “wipe data/factory reset” using volume buttons and hit the Power button.

Step 4. Choose “Yes” and hit Power button.

Step 5. Choose “install zip from sdcard” and hit the Power button.

Step 6. Choose “choose zip from sdcard and hit the Power button.

Step 7. Choose “transformer_8.2.3.13_US_update.zip” or “transformer_8.2.3.13_WW_update.zip” and hit the Power button.

Step 8. Choose “Yes” and hit the Power button.

Step 9. Reboot.

Step 10. Once rebooted, you should now have a stock rooted ROM. Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery by holding down Volume down and Power button together until you see text at the top, then immediately let go of both buttons then hit the Volume up button.  You should now be in ClockworkMod Recovery.

Step 11. Choose “install zip from sdcard” and hit the Power button.

Step 12. Choose “choose zip from sdcard and hit the Power button.

Step 13. Choose “8239USrecovery.zip” and hit the Power button.

Step 14. Choose “Yes” and hit the Power button.

Step 15. Reboot.

You should now have a fully stock ROM on your EeePad Tranformer. This is an older stock ROM and if you want to update to the latest, simply do Settings->About tablet->System Update.

Use a microSD card adapter, format your microSD card, then put the files in the microSD card, then put it in your EeePad Transformer, the Clockwork won’t let you mount using CWM but will read your microSD fine.

love you site, but got me into a lot of trouble, started out rooting my transformer, installing all the hacks and all was fine till the last one “how to overclock” got a screen with colored lines, I went back to “unbricking your transformer” and now all I get is the black start up screen that said ASUS eepad and it would not move from there, I can not get into recovery mode no matter what, pressing power and volume Up or Down do not get me past the next screen… any suggestions? HELP PLEASE!!!

    • chuck says:

hey sorry to tell you but if you can not get to the CWM or the Fastboot/bootloader menu you are hard bricked.
which is the worst brick possible since there is no way to unbrick it yet!

Hey the 8239USrecovery.zip file is bad…won’t open on my TF101 or my computer…what gives?

  9. lucas says:

Does it works for that problem when we cannot do anything after booting? Like, I just see the Eee Pad Transformer screen loading, and afterwards it turns into a static colloured screen, where I can take no action.
Plus, its not possible to load APX mode on PC, nor see or copy any files into the transformer via USB.

  10. AODfan says:

When you say in the video for step 8 installing transformer_8.2.3.13_US_update.zip, that it will take awhile, how long are you talking about? Mine has been on “Automatic rooting” for like over 10 minutes…

I have the latest update and it is rooted and has CWM , I would like to flash it back to the stock rom or get rid of root so I can RMA it but I have no idea on how to do it or if it can be done, The volume up just quit working after the last update a few days ago. Hi

Excellent tutorial everything worked fine…I just cant update my transformer both manually and OTA don’t work. When i try manual update it says system update failed .(12) , system is restored to previous configuration.Plz help I would like to fix this as ice cream sandwich is coming out soon.

  27. vinylb says:

After following the steps to get back to stock and you find you still have Superuser icon and trying to remove it gives you “permission denied”, I downloaded updatelauncher_us_epaduserv8_6_5_13, then extracted the US_epad-user-8.6.5.13 zip and copied it onto a microsd. Inserted the microsd into Transformer while its running, it will detec the update and ask if you want to proceed. This will get you to that new version, remove any traces of su/superuser and allow you get the latest .21 update from OTA.

Big thanks to this site !

  28. kennyg says:

I think I may have goofed….I still have superuser…i cant update from .13 and I no longer have cwm….where did i mess up? Oh, also when i try to remove SU it claims that it isa system app…i cant even remove it from the sys folder….

  29. yosi says:

    How to unrooted Taiwan version?

  30. Rondock says:

I sure hope you can help me. I rooted the tablet then I was going to overclock it. Followed the instructions to do that and, like a few others, I got the screen with colored lines.

I read what you said to do for the others so I downloaded and installed the 8239USrecovery.zip on the tablet but now things have gotten worst. Now I can’t boot into the kernel to get to the recovery screens.

I hold the power and down at the same time, I then push the up button, it says its booting recovery module, then the screen stops with an image of a little android next to a triangle with an explanation point in it and then seems to do nothing. But after a few minutes it reboots and goes back to the screen with colored lines.

I have a bad feeling I’m really screwed. Can you help? At this point all I want to do is get back to the basic Transformer I originally had.

  37. I understand you have alot on your plate, and you’re receiving a lot of emails, but I realize you don’t respond to none of the questions!! What’s the point of giving tutorials if you’re not going to respond for months on end to everyone’s questions?? Don’t get me wrong they’re great tutorials that need to be updated for one, but most importantly, it would be great for you to show some interest in replying.

    Hello,

I have a major problem. I tried to flash the latest version of Android Revolution HD. I think it’s 3.0.1. It wouldn’t take, so I restored back to the previous version. Now, when I try to boot into CWM recovery it gets stuck on the Eee Pad screen. It looks like I lost CWM. What would happen if I tried to re-root?

    Hey Max,

I need help, my eee pad tf101 has a problem, I don’t know how it happened, but it is stuck in a boot to CWM cycle, I cant seem to figure out. The only way to get to the OS, is by holding down power and vol down, then a screen comes up thats states checking for RCK.. press key vol up in 5 secs to enter RCK. then it takes me to the next screen, where I need to select, Wipe Data or Android, I press vol up. it takes me to the homescreen.

I can’t flash a different CWM Recovery, when I do, it loads back CWM 5.8.3.4
It can’t read my External SD
It doesn’t read my Internal SD correctly either

I have the B9 version of the tf101
